Incident should open discourse about importance of sex education
LAHORE: The news of a 14-year-old boy assaulting a hen in a city in Punjab has come as a surprise for many, with some even claiming that the teenager carried out such an outrageous act because he was mentally deranged. But I beg to differ with any such petty ‘excuses’ that justify the boy’s act.
Instead of finding an excuse for the boy’s action and trying to justify it, people should reflect on the ideas our society passes onto little boys. In fact, it should open a discourse about the importance of sex education, which is still a taboo topic even among the most affluent households in Pakistan. Attributing the issue of sexual assault to mental illness will only do more harm than good.
