Ties between India and Pakistan

Letter April 25, 2011
This trade could lead to an easing of hostilities, lowering of mutual suspicion.

SYDNEY: This is with reference to Jyoti Malhotra’s article of April 25 titled “Let the electricity connect us”. I agree with the writer. There may be issues with the Pakistan-India relationship but if both sides were to be practical, they would realise that trade makes good sense, for purely economic reasons. Hence, it makes sense for Pakistan to purchase electricity from India, if it is cheap and if India has it in surplus and is willing to sell it to Pakistan.

This trade could perhaps lead to an easing of hostilities and a lowering of the mutual suspicion that characterises the bilateral relationship.
