Among all the law-enforcement forces, the police are probably the most inefficient
ISLAMABAD: Among all the law-enforcement forces, the police are probably the most inefficient. Owing to their proximity to the public, they are always in direct contact with them. However, this does not make them serve the people for which they are appointed. Citizens have, unfortunately, had awful encounters with the police, many of which are also recorded on camera and are available on social media for proof. From the traffic police charging unfair traffic challans to officials at police stations, the police are regarded as the least efficient among all the law-enforcement forces. Owing to the police’s incompetence, cases have often been handed over to the paramilitary Rangers, particularly in Karachi.
Not just that, the police have also failed to tackle even the most non-political and trivial issues that mostly pertain to street crimes and the safety of citizens; for instance, the case of knife attacks in Karachi was handed over to the Rangers when the police failed to produce significant results. Further, posting and transfers are done on the basis of favouritism, nepotism and other narrow and extraneous considerations. As a result of the above-mentioned factors, the police serve only the interests of the powerful.
