GUJRANWALA: During a Senate session recently, the chairman of the Higher Education Commission of Pakistan spoke on the rising number of colleges and other educational institutions, which are not affiliated with an HEC-approved institution or the educational regulatory body itself. These institutions issue degrees to candidates. Due to their non-affiliated status, these degrees are useless and hence, a waste of thousands of rupees and time a candidate has spent studying at the institution. Often, adverts are published in the leading dailies to alert parents and students about such scams, however, a more wise approach would be to have the HEC’s regional offices in all the major districts and towns for better monitoring.
