ISLAMABAD: In a recent report, Pakistan has been ranked as ‘Not Free’ in terms of internet or online freedom the users have. In the past few years, the internet has made a rapid surge upwards as not only the most used but much sought-after news source. Unlike the news channels or other forms of print or electronic media, it covers a range of issues spanning over political, religious or social issues without much censor and filter. It’s only when a certain news story has already made its way to the screens of billions that it is removed or banned. It is shocking how several issues pertaining to the ills of society made their way to the internet and got misconstrued and escalated for the worse. Nonetheless, strict laws will not solve the problem either, unless perception towards such issue is changed for the better.
