Some things you can know

Letter April 24, 2011
Right to information in Article 19-A of the Constitution, allows a person to file for information in writing.

ISLAMABAD: This is with reference to Khurram Husain’s article of April 22 titled “Some things you’ll never know”. The writer has tried to explain how the system whereby information is generated and disseminated lacks transparency and the real picture is kept hidden from the ordinary people.

For the benefit of your readers, there is a way that the general public can acquire information from government departments. This is contained in the right to information in Article 19-A of the Constitution, after the introduction of the Eighteenth Amendment. A person has to fill out a form and submit a fee of Rs50 with it in order to obtain the information in writing.

If the information is not provided within 21 days, a complaint can also be filed with the federal ombudsman.
