KARACHI: Pollution in its various forms like noise, air, water and land pollution continues to destroy the natural environment. But air pollution is probably the most harmful kind of pollution in our country that can damage the atmospheric layers and also be a cause of climate-borne diseases. All industrial units producing carbon dioxide and toxic pollutants that cause damage to the atmosphere should be established out of the cities in suburban areas.
In Pakistan, garbage heaps are mostly burnt out in the open, which should be rather dumped in dumping grounds on the outskirts of the metropolitan areas.
People also contribute to pollution by throwing away rubbish out in the open. Moreover, toxic chemicals and insecticides also cause land pollution, which damages the crop yield. Water is contaminated largely due to industrial and sewage waste. This contamination causes many diseases upon consumption.
Pollution is a byproduct of the mechanised lifestyle and urban growth. Though governments must take necessary steps in dealing with pollution, people should also play their part in reducing pollution and the threat of climate change.
