The federal government plans for their registration with the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony
PESHAWAR: Amid the confusion surrounding the impending madrassa reforms, the authorities brokered the news of the agreement of the religious clerics getting the religious seminaries registered with the boards of education. However, the purpose is not just to have the name of a madrassa in the government’s database but to amend the curriculum in order to scrub out extremism and militancy.
Registration should be a part of the entire process with the government planning out a way to check old and newly formed madrassas for their curriculum, funding and the religious school of thought they follow. The seminaries are currently registered with the Industrial and Social Welfare Department and the meeting resulted in an agreement to register them with the educational boards.
However, the federal government plans for their registration with the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony. But with no clear policy drafted by the federal government, meetings between subordinate departments will only add to the muddle surrounding the matter.
