Uncertainty facing MQM-P

Letter November 01, 2017
Perwani was present at the press conference when MQM-P chief Farooq Sattar announced Perwani and others joining

KARACHI: In an odd turn of events, fashion designer Deepak Perwani who had earlier announced that he would be joining the Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) at a press conference two weeks ago has denied formally joining the party. This has come as a surprise considering that Perwani was present at the press conference when MQM-P chief Farooq Sattar announced Perwani and others joining the party. In just two weeks the fashion designer has again announced that he is not joining  the party, citing that he has too much on his plate already to be working as a political figure.

The divergence in the stance of Perwani and the MQM-P further damages the party’s image. The party seems to be confused about what kind of political strategy it should adopt. This could make it harder for the party to attract voters in the next general elections.
