Fixing PIA

Letter October 31, 2017
According to a report, the government has approved a bailout package worth Rs13 billion for PIA

LAHORE: According to a report, the government has approved a bailout package worth Rs13 billion for Pakistan International Airlines. Despite having an active Senate committee on the performance of the airline, no significant progress has been noted relating to the monetary and management affairs of the airline. With the government constantly pumping money into the loss-making national airline, its operations have led to a constant decline in revenue. It is about time that the government and the ministries concerned considered privatisation or alternative solutions to the matter instead of approving bailout packages. Further, making changes in the operational management is certainly going to bring the needed improvement in the faltering state of the airline. Hence, the government should seek management assistance for the airline, be it through another governmental or private channel.
