NA-4 by-election

Letter October 29, 2017
Results show PTI’s popularity, standing as ruling party in K-P province

PESHAWAR: The NA-4 constituency in Peshawar will likely set the future political course of the region with its results. It is surprising that the PTI, the ANP and the PML-N have given one another quite a contest. The PPP and the JI, however, polled relatively fewer votes than other parties. The results show the PTI’s popularity and standing as the ruling party in the province.

Women voter turnout is another indicator of the women empowering image the PTI claims to have set in motion in the province. PTI’s candidate, Arbab Amir, has retained the seat for the party among other 14 candidates of different political parties, with that being the case the PTI has emerged as a political force having similar status as that of the PML-N in Punjab or the PPP in Sindh. Although the PTI manifesto announced by the chairman a day before the polling offers nothing new other than the old rhetorical promises of improving the literacy rate and eradicating poverty, the party still seems to have gained a strong foothold in the province.
