The much heard rumours of internal change in the PML-N might just become a reality
LAHORE: The much heard rumours of internal change in the PML-N might just become a reality. After party chief Nawaz Sharif’s indictment, Maryam Nawaz and her husband, Safdar, have also been indicted by a court and are to face charges, leaving the future of the party in an uncertain state until a final verdict is given by the court.
Though things might still appear unchanged on the surface with the duo still being the powerhouse of the PML-N politics, internally an unofficial split already seems to exist — dividing the old and the new members, the seasoned and the learned from the novices. Any significant change of power in the Sharif house, from the elder brother and his daughter to the younger one will entirely change not only the party’s stance but the face of the many ongoing issues the party is currently surrounded by.
However, such a change does not seem to be coming before the next general election until and unless the cases are heard and cleared off on an urgent basis. Hence, it might be too early to arrive at any conclusion, especially if Nawaz, Maryam and Safdar manage to successfully wriggle their way out of the court charges, the PML of ‘Nawaz Sharif’ will be once again in the position of reviving its influence and power — stronger than ever.
