PESHAWAR: A recent report states the disappointing success rate that the provincial polio drive has achieved in Balochistan, that is 16%. Though lack of funding, resources and human capital is the common cause of the lowest success rate in Balochistan among all the provinces, reluctance on the part of the local people to get their children vaccinated is the outcome of the 2011 military operation against Osama bin Laden, that claimed that Dr Shakil Afridi helped the US forces in the guise of running a fake vaccination drive. This put polio vaccination workers under constant danger of being killed, particularly in the tribal areas of the country.
