The ruling party finds its origin and convergence in conservative, rightist political ideology
LAHORE: The ruling party finds its origin and convergence in conservative, rightist political ideology. Nevertheless, it negates a religious extremist rhetoric towards the state and the country. The party somehow still struggles to carve its image out as one democratic and liberalist political party, however the recent statement given by Captain Safdar against naming the Physics Department of Quaid-e-Azam University, Islamabad after Nobel prize winner physicist Dr Abdus Salam deals a major blow to the party’s already shadowy image as being one welcoming of inclusivity of minorities as a nation. Many consider Captain Safdar’s statement as a tactic to divert the attention of the public from his corruption charges towards his allegiance to the nationhood as a Muslim. With that being the case, it is indeed shameful of a leader to bring religion in, in an attempt to worm his way out of a corruption-tainted image that is entirely individualistic in nature, especially when religion in Pakistan happens to be an extremely sensitive issue.
