It’s disappointing that the administration and higher authorities are unable to do anything except blaming one another
ISLAMABAD: Although the International Islamic University, Islamabad is among the top ranked universities in Pakistan, it is plagued with many issues. The first major issue is the lack of classrooms. According to students and teachers, they face difficulty in gaining proper education because they aren’t provided with proper classrooms. The students either have to fight for a classroom or sometimes have to take their lectures in hostel rooms, or teachers’ personal cabins.
The second major issue is transport. Though the university boasts a great network of buses, it doesn’t understand that they are still not enough for the students. They are overloaded which is the main cause of many road accidents. Just a few months ago, one of the buses met with an accident, causing injuries to many students. The students went into trauma and became afraid of boarding them again. When I spoke to an official at the transport department, he said, “It is not our fault since we are not getting enough funds. We asked for more buses but the administration said they don’t have enough money. And one bus costs crores.” This is either a blame game or the administration is actually guilty. And I wonder what bus costs so much.
Another problem faced by the female students only is that they are restricted to go out without a permission slip. The research students face great difficulty when they have to get out of the university for research purpose. The administration isn’t ready to sign the slips, which indirectly means they don’t trust their students. Students can’t get out even in case of emergencies. A few days ago some girls were stopped at the gate. They told the guard that they didn’t have any classes and wanted to go home, but the guard refused to let them go and instead asked them to wait till 2:30pm.
It’s disappointing that the administration and higher authorities are unable to do anything except blaming one another.
