PESHAWAR: Months have elapsed since the federal cabinet approved the Fata reforms and merger with K-P, nevertheless implementation of the said plan remains stalled due to ever-rising objections and issues by other political parties and leaders of the tribal areas. The government and its allies appear in consensus on the merger although tribal leaders of the area demand a referendum emphasising that any implementation should be in accordance with the wishes of the people of the region. Merger and implementation of the common law and judicial system is the prerequisite to the development of Fata. However, the delay will possibly roll back all the progress made so far, adding another failure to the incompetence of the present government.
