Unnecessary ban

Letter October 09, 2017
There is no doubt about the fact that Pakistan’s entertainment industry is flourishing

LAHORE: There is no doubt about the fact that Pakistan’s entertainment industry is flourishing and recent blockbusters have only lent credence to the claim. However, it is unfortunate to witness that some people have been trying to bring it down and the recent ban on Na Maloom Afraad 2 in Punjab after five weeks of its running in cinema houses is proof.

The movie that released on Eidul Azha has garnered much acclaim and had been successfully running before it was slapped with a ban in Punjab, claiming the movie was obscene. Some news stories claim that the ban was a result of people calling and complaining about the obscene scenes in the movie to the authorities concerned that led to their decision of imposing a ban. However, the movie was, in fact, cleared for screening before its release and a decision being taken owing to pressure from the public gives out a wrong message.

All movies before their release are certified by the censor board with appropriate ratings. Therefore, people should look into what ratings the movie has received before watching it. Besides, all because few individuals in society think the movie is vulgar, it doesn’t mean it should be banned. The Punjab censor board should look into the matter and revise the decision.
