The problem of the use of unhealthy poultry and beef and mutton in restaurants across the country
LAHORE: A few years ago, the issue of supplying donkey meat to restaurants in Punjab raised a furore among the public, hence the action taken by the authorities proved to be useful in curtailing the use of donkey meat to an extent. However, much older and still undealt with, is the problem of the use of unhealthy poultry and beef and mutton in restaurants across the country. Not just street cafes, five-star hotels too are no exception. Since such meat is available at cheap prices, it makes for a common ingredient in the food served at high-end restaurants. Similar is the case of dairy products, where the cattle are injected for increased supply of milk.
The relevant authorities can certainly not be given a clean chit for doing the needful, as had it not been with the covert nod of the authorities it is virtually impossible for food chains to engage in such deceitful and harming activity which can lead in toxic effects on human health in the long run.
