KARACHI: Eleven women have been stabbed so far by an unidentified man and the police have failed to draw up an effective plan to arrest him. While I understand that Karachi is a huge city with 15 million residents, it is still upsetting that besides deployment of police staff in civilian dress no other measure has been taken, for instance installing functional CCTVs in the city. In fact the only video of the attackers available fails to identify any details — perhaps, the number plate of the motorbike — because the quality of the video is too grainy and of little value.
Considering that the man only attacks women, perhaps because he is a misogynist psychopath, female police officers should be deployed in civilian dress across the city for a better chance of catching him. Effective actions should be taken immediately before injuries turn into fatalities.
