Prevention of HIV

Pakistan is among the few countries most vulnerable to the disease with a moderate number of cases being reported

LAHORE: A recent survey conducted on HIV in Pakistan highlighted the fact that despite the rapid global decline in the spread of the disease, Pakistan is still one among the few countries most vulnerable to the disease with a moderate number of cases still being reported. With the passage of time, better treatment of disease and protection against it has been developed, however it remains out of the reach of the affected, due to unawareness and unaffordability.

Also, sex workers remain the primary cause of the spread of HIV. As sex education and awareness is still a taboo topic, improved accessibility to precautionary measures and treatment facilities is the only solution. With the younger generations now having more sexual freedom, awareness and medical accessibility must be equally provided. Measures like compulsory pre-marital medical tests would further help curtail the spread of disease.
