Calling the shots

Who had given the orders to deploy the forces at the building is still a mystery which needs to be solved

LAHORE: On October 2nd, on the day of the reference hearing against ousted PM Nawaz Sharif, Interior Minister Ahsan Iqbal, along with other PML-N leaders, were denied entry to the court building by the paramilitary Rangers deployed outside the premises. Not just the media personnel but the party leaders too faced the situation. Who had given the orders to deploy the forces at the building is still a mystery which needs to be solved given that both the Rangers’ authority and the interior ministry are looking for answers. Also as stated in a media report, former interior minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan had faced similar situations on numerous occasions yet he chose to keep mum over it. Contrary to his former counterpart, the current interior minister threatened to resign over transgression of his authority by the Rangers. This also raises the question of what irked the incumbent minister, perhaps, the fear of his authority being eroded or his response was just a mere show of power that the former minister refrained from exercising.
