A recent report published in a daily claimed that FBR officials are guilty of misconduct and funds embezzlement
KARACHI: It’s rather alarming to know that in a country where law-enforcement agencies are accused of protecting terrorists alongside the massive losses the country has suffered in the war against terrorism, financial bodies too are engaged in similar acts causing huge monetary loss to the exchequer and the economy. Various reasons have been pointed out as the primary cause for the slow economic growth, yet the wrongdoings of the FBR and its officers have always remained concealed from the public eye. A recent report published in a daily claimed that FBR officials are guilty of misconduct and funds embezzlement but no investigation or restraining action has been ordered so far against these officials. Also, low-grade officers are often forced to cover up for the wrongs of their heads. As is the case with intelligence and law-enforcement agencies, the federal government appears helpless in controlling one of its own organisations. While the FBR imposes monetary fines and imprisonment on non-taxpayers, justice must be done to the taxpayers by taking action against FBR officers who are allegedly involved in monetary fraud and embezzlement.
