RAWALPINDI: On September 26, 2017, a historic decree was issued in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Women have been allowed to drive, a right that was earlier prohibited, under the guardianship policy of the kingdom, which become a global symbol of the oppression of women in KSA. After years of struggle, women in KSA can finally take a ride along the mountainous terrains of the kingdom.
Even though the decree will be in practice from next year onwards and may have some clause pertaining to the act of driving, it is a step in the right direction and may point at the future progression of the ultraconservative kingdom.
Ever since the crown prince has taken charge, things for KSA have changed for the better that also translates as good news for its allies, including Pakistan. Recently, a ban on internet calls was also lifted, which meant a vast community of expatriates living in KSA can make free calls back home without having to pay hefty amounts in international call charges.
