An objective approach

Letter September 28, 2017
Time will prove if Khan is guilty until then hate speech against him or people should be avoided

KARACHI: One of the most influential Muslim scholars, Noman Ali Khan, is currently facing harassment charges. The news that broke on social media has since divided his followers. Some are disgusted by him, leading to an unfortunate loss of interest in their faith — as he has helped a vast number of Muslim millennials restore their faith in Islam — while others are blatantly denying these accusations as a mere propaganda against him.

It is quite unfortunate that at a time when Islam is trying to find its footings in the wake of misguided religiosity of a government organisation and religious groups alike and Islamophobia, harassment charges against Khan can lead to serious consequences. It is then, however, increasingly important that his followers separate his preaching from his actions and take an objective approach to the news. Only time will prove if Khan is actually guilty, but till then hate speech against him or people who believe in the allegations should be avoided.
