Time and again, however, the establishment has denied the presence of IS in the country
KARACHI: It is unfortunate that in the capital of Pakistan, equipped with the latest surveillance system, an ISIS flag stating ‘Khilafat is coming’ was hung by unidentified men on a major thoroughfare. The police have been unable to arrest the men, who have undoubtedly spread fear not only Islamabad but across the country, citing that the CCTV in the area wasn’t functional. As a result, these men roam the city freely, while the case has been registered under the Anti-terrorism Act.
Time and again, however, the establishment has denied the presence of IS in the country even though terror attacks influenced by the militant group have been carried out in Pakistan. With this blatant show of its arrival, it has become increasingly important for the law enforcement agencies to derive a counterterror strategy specifically for the ISIS. There is no doubt that our armed forced are already tirelessly working towards eradicating terror from the country but there is an elephant in the room, and it’s about time we notice it.
