Perhaps, the society seems to be accepting of things as long as it pleases their ideology
LAHORE: Recently, pictures of Pakistani superstar Mahira Khan with Indian star Ranbir Kapoor made rounds on social media. Pakistanis were quick to spew hate and bash the actress for smoking a cigarette and a choice in attire.
The moral police of the society barged in and pointed at the ills of the society. What remains ambiguous is the reason for all the hateful criticism, as the picture in itself is nothing new but just a candid picture of the actors’ lifestyle. Logically speaking, it shouldn’t be surprising for anyone who knows TV and film actors. Perhaps, the society seems to be accepting of things as long as it pleases their ideology. To many, not the act in itself, but the presence of a woman doing it is a good enough reason to stir moral outrage. Unfortunately, many who indulge in similar activities don’t let go of a chance on social media to bash a celebrity as long as it confines morality to a gender and not to the act itself.
