The error overstated exports for the month by 0.13 billion
KARACHI: The Pakistan Bureau of Statistics made a rather sloppy blunder when it published overstated figures for exports by applying the incorrect exchange rate against the dollar. The error overstated exports for the month by 0.13 billion. Hence the elation to see export figures reach the $2 billion mark was short-lived. While Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi has already instructed a probe, the mistake however later fixed may have consequently led to incorrect figures being generated by business entities and other bodies concerned. As the figures represent a disproportionate growth of import and export, the government therefore must either try to control the inflow of goods into the country or increase exports to maintain a positive balance of trade.
