KARACHI: This is in response to Asmat Kakar and Khuram Shahzad’s column titled ‘Pakistan needs a robust LG system’ published on August 27th. In their column, both the writers have made a case for a local government system like that of Panchayat Raj during the British rule. However, I would like to bring to their notice that where ever the so-called Panchayat system has prevailed in the country, before or after independence, there have been more negative results than positive results. A case in point is the revenge rape ordered by a Panchayat in July this year.
