The tiff between former high commissioner to India Abdul Basit and Pakistan’s current ambassador to the US
LAHORE: The tiff between former high commissioner to India Abdul Basit and Pakistan’s current ambassador to the US Aizaz Chaudhry has surpassed even the most silly of the arguments between adolescents. It’s quite unfortunate to see how the former diplomat instead of rendering the usual formality of wishing luck, has made some personal and scathing allegations against his fellow diplomat, following his appointment as the ambassador to the US which is entirely at the behest of the party in power.
A wise and mature move from the former high commissioner’s end would have been communicating his apprehensions to the government leaders and making a case for his own credibility and acumen to be appointed for another challenging diplomatic task.
If proven that the letter is indeed authentic, the government must take appropriate action against the former for not only subtly refusing to accept the decision to appoint Aizaz Chaudhry, but also for damaging his reputation, as a known diplomat.
