Niqab ban in France

Letter April 14, 2011
Imposing a ban on the face-veil without society undergoing a moral transformation is preposterous!

KARACHI: This is in reference to the news report in this newspaper, “France bans face-covering Islamic veil”. What a shameful law to enforce on Muslim citizens who only want to practice their religion peacefully and protect the honour of their women. Imposing a ban on the face-veil without society undergoing a moral transformation is preposterous! First give a lady the assurance that no lustful eyes will follow her on the street and all men will lower their gazes when women pass in front of them. Then only will women feel safe in uncovering her face. It is absurd to say that a veil is a barrier to society’s advancement. Society has no problem with nude women and street punks who terrorise citizens with their attire and tattooed arms! Every human being needs to stand and denounce this so-called law.
