Zulfikar Ali Bhutto case

Letter April 14, 2011
Both are experts in fooling the public in order to prove their efficiency and making points with the government.

LAHORE: The present PPP regime has got two gentlemen who are playing various roles extremely well in different situations faced by the government. Both are experts in fooling the public in order to prove their efficiency and making points with the government. In the reopening of the Zulfikar Ali Bhutto case, one of these two gentlemen, Babar Awan, has resigned from his ministry in order to argue the case in front of the Supreme Court.

It is surprising that the government could not find a better lawyer than him or a retired judge throughout its party ranks. Even Barrister Kamal Azfar would have been a far better choice but, perhaps, the gentleman who has been chosen was selected because he is adept at using delaying tactics. I say this because he has done this in many cases where the honourable court had given judgements which were either parried by the gentleman and his ministry or, were not implemented.

The other issue is that why is this government re-visiting this case when Mr Bhutto’s own daughter, who served as prime minister twice, never thought of doing so. This step of the current government to reopen the Bhutto case at a time when the country is facing so many other, more pressing, crises makes little sense.
