Letter August 14, 2017
Nawaz and followers fail to understand that the verdict of the Supreme Court cannot be reversed

KARACHI: It was a landmark ruling by the Supreme Court judges to disqualify the country’s premier over corruption charges — all the more remarkable because it was a unanimous decision. Following the verdict an uncertain situation has emerged, as political opponents are targeting state institutions. The ‘homegoing’ rally of the ousted premier from Islamabad to Lahore via GT Road, with approximately 12 speeches to the public on the way, is a display of power and influence. But they fail to understand that the verdict of the Supreme Court cannot be reversed. Are they trying to confront the judiciary? Shouldn’t they be stopped in their tracks?
