The Panama verdict

Letter August 09, 2017
Let this judicious judgment be the beginning of flushing out the corrupt from the political landscape of our homeland

LARKANA: The Supreme Court unanimously delivered its judgment on the Panamagate case disqualifying the prime minister. The Panama Papers released by the law firm Mossack Fonseca shook the reigns of many politicians across the globe, including Iceland’s Prime Minister Sigmundur Davíð Gunnlaugsson and Spain’s Industries Minister Jose Manuel Soria.

The judiciary has done a commendable work, however, some political puppets call the probe a conspiracy of the establishment against the PM. Ironically, many also believe that the PM has been punished for initiating developmental projects like China-Pakistan Economic Corridor. However, this is misleading since the project is between two states and not political figures.

A premier with questionable integrity and dishonesty can never be entrusted with the responsibility of running the affairs of a state nor can a tainted person be a defender of national interests. Unless the leadership is democratic in approach and honest in acts and declarations, they would be disgraced, disqualified and discarded like this.

Let this judicious judgment be the beginning of flushing out the corrupt from the political landscape of our dear homeland.
