Managing traffic in Karachi

Letter August 03, 2017
I request the authorities concerned to take necessary steps and resolve this issue at their earliest

KARACHI: Travelling on roads is not an easy job. In an attempt to avoid it, motorists often take longer routes and are even ready to pay toll for them.

When travelling from Tariq Road and Bahadurabad to Johar Chowrangi between 6pm to 10pm, one has to face several rush points. The first one is at the Time Medico signal that makes one wait for hours before finally reaching to the point of junction. However, this traffic can easily be avoided if an underpass is constructed.

The second rush point is at the Dalmia road. This route witnesses traffic owing to the stalls situated on the side of the roads and the double-parking that hinders the smooth flow of traffic. This too can easily be avoided, if these stalls are removed and the practice of double parking is penalised.

Lastly, the third point of traffic jam is the Millennium Mall leading up to the Johar Chowrangi. Although a flyover was constructed opposite the mall, it has failed to help ease the  heavy flow of traffic. I request the authorities concerned to take necessary steps and resolve this issue at their earliest.
