Giving women the power

Letter July 21, 2017
Taking power back from Pakistani men and giving it to women begins with letting women tell their own stories

LAHORE: This is in response to Aisha Sarwari’s article titled ‘Why women stories need to be told’ published on July 18th. I can’t thank the writer enough for bringing such a pressing issue into mainstream media and giving honour killing a perspective many fail to identify.

Ms Sarwari, with the proficiency of her pen, has been able to shake people’s consciousness by asking questions that many often try to avoid. Her last two sentences of the article are not only powerful but also points at the unfortunate situation of women’s narratives in the country, making readers ponder upon it long after they are done reading it. “Taking power back from Pakistani men and giving it to women begins with letting women tell their own stories. Preferably, while they are still alive.”
