The report has proven that democracy can prevail in Pakistan with a just and accountable system working in its favour
ISLAMABAD: The Joint Investigation Team (JIT) released its report, leaving the political situation of the country in turmoil. By thoroughly examining the documents provided to them by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and his family, the JIT has given a befitting response to people accusing it of serving the sitting PM’s agenda. Before the release of its final report, the JIT was highly scrutinised not just by the ruling political parties in the country but also by the masses, neither nearly had any faith in them to conduct a thorough research to seek the discrepancies in the documents.
But the report has proven that democracy can prevail in Pakistan with a just and accountable system working in its favour. The Panama Papers scandal has seen a lot of firsts in Pakistan’s democratic history with the latest being, JIT’s proficient investigation.
If things continue as they are, then Pakistan may for the first time experience a democratic revolution after its premier is found guilty. The civilians will be left with no choice except taking to streets and demanding the resignation of PM Nawaz, given that he is unlikely to do so himself without any external pressure.
In the days to come, Pakistan may be able to direct its democracy in the true sense of the system, paving the way for better things to follow.
