Blame for Afridi’s remarks

Letter April 07, 2011
Afridi is not to be blamed. He is repeating verbatim what is being taught in our school curriculum.

LAHORE: Your editorial on Shahid Afridi’s anti-Indian remarks of April 6 titled ‘Afridi’s political no-ball’ misses the point completely when it recommends that he should be reprimanded by the PCB and that the latter should educate the players, given their low level of education.

Afridi is not to be blamed. He is repeating verbatim what is being taught in our school curriculum. The blame lies squarely on those who have kept half the population uneducated, while the other half is fed the most hateful propaganda. This damage cannot be undone by the PCB which, in all likelihood, is staffed by individuals subjected to the same curriculum. Ironically, on one level the uneducated are fortunate because they are nowhere as bigoted as the educated.

Your newspaper should be leading a campaign against the root cause of the problem that is inflicting immense damage on helpless citizens. I am disappointed and dissatisfied with your analysis.
