Medical professionals should thoroughly think about their profession and lack of commitment, if any
LAHORE: Doctors play an important role in our society. If a doctor is committed to his or her profession, sometimes they may even go out of their way to treat their patients. And it’s time we thanked them for it.
On World Doctor’s day that is observed on July 1st, we should take the opportunity to celebrate and pay tribute to the number of doctors in our life, from gynaecologists who helped in bringing us to this world to our general physicians who treat our cold and flu.
However, besides reminding people of the critical role doctor’s play in our lives, people should also encourage doctors they know to reflect on their own careers, realise their responsibility and redirect themselves onto an ethical path of healing those in need.
Considering that the masses depend on their physicians and their quality treatments, medical professionals should thoroughly think about their profession and lack of commitment, if any.
Sometimes the common and poor people are handled by irresponsible and unprofessional doctors. This often becomes the reason for public violence and protests against those doctors, pharmacists and other medical professionals. The recent death of sanitary worker Irfan Masih and the doctors’ protest in Peshawar claiming innocent lives speak volumes about this unprofessionalism.
Thus, awareness campaigns aimed at doctors and physicians can make them realise their responsibilities.
