ISLAMABAD: PIA has been in news for all the wrong reasons lately. And rightly so! Over the past few years, the national carrier has been under much scrutiny for its incompetence to deliver a world-class flying experience. From its pilot taking a long nap on board and asking a trainee to take over to the recent finding of drugs on board at the Heathrow airport, the management seems to be doing nothing right.
At a time when other national carriers are advancing their flying experience to making long-haul flights as comfortable as possible, our national carrier is facing losses as even ‘nationalists’ are unwilling to board them. At this rate, it wouldn’t be surprising that the company soon faces a complete closure; and seems like that is going to happen rather sooner. The government has sought support from lawmakers across party lines to declare the loss-making airline ‘bankrupt’ and eventually shut it down. This move was taken keeping in consideration the events that have taken place over the last month. At least, it’s safe to say, the government has been taking notice of debilitating situations in the country to some extent, perhaps, some news stories are hard to ignore. But the good news is that we probably will not have to wait for hours for another delayed PIA flight to board on.
