Blood in the name of religion

Letter May 01, 2017
We are now living in an era where we are unsure of who to look at to save us from such extremism

HYDERABAD: In Pakistan, only when you think things, or rather people, cannot get anymore worse, you are slapped with the harsh reality. And a rally demanding release of suspects arrested in Mashal Khan’s lynching is just that. As if the brutal lynching wasn’t enough to make us realise the ill fate we are all headed towards, a recent protest rally underscores the struggle and the hardships we yet have to face.

A group of clerics has declared the accused ‘innocent’, calling them ‘true Muslims’ and are demanding their release. The rally was held a day ago and saw a good number of people attending it, hoisting flags of their respective parties. This goes on to show that the political parties, who vow to work towards the betterment of our society, consist of members that are radicalised and support extremism, especially in the name of religion. The situation is as scary as it seems, as we go on to elect such political parties in hope for a better future but little do we know that we are putting our lives in the wrong hands.

We are now living in an era where we are unsure of who to look at to save us from such extremism. On the one hand, we have our army fighting the terrorist and on the other we have the civilians fighting one another. It’s time we took matters in our own hands to rid ourselves of people who serve us with blood in the name of religion.
