Child labour is as much of an economic issue as it is a social problem
KARACHI: Child labour is a phenomenon common in all economically deprived nations of the world. It is common in regions where economic development lags behind population growth, such as Pakistan, India and Bangladesh. Child labour is as much of an economic issue as it is a social problem.
According to a report, 40 per cent of the country’s population is poor and underprivileged families are unable to feed their children. As a result, children are pulled into the workforce to provide for their families and feed themselves. Another report also suggests that about 12.5 million children are labourers in Pakistan.
It is the need of the hour to protect the rights of these children by looking after them and standing against the curse of child labour in our society. We have to respect their rights by looking after their welfare and supporting them to make their lives better, so they can turn into prosperous and responsible individuals for our country.
