The system can be run efficiently by rail professionals
LAHORE: Railway Minister Saad Rafique’s management of the state rail sector is a total debacle. It could not have been worse. A bank has advertised its use to promote its own business. A railway system should provide a transport system which is “safe”, “reliable” and “affordable” but it lacks all the three.
Any organisation that desires to sell its product in a competitive market, tries to offer a product which is better in quality and fulfils customers’ requirements. But the railway system lacks the infrastructural and operational safety, which should have been its prime quality. The railway system is no more reliable and lacks passenger trust. It should have been affordable but, on the contrary, has high tariffs along with poor quality of service, causing an abnormal increase in the cost of transport leading to an increase in the cost of living.
The minister is not part of a ‘Paragon city’ that his poor leadership will go unnoticed. The system can be run efficiently by rail professionals, as they are neither incompetent nor third division graduates, but only if he wants.
