Government should keep a proper check and balance on shrines, regarding their activities
LAHORE: Twenty people, 16 men and four women, were murdered in a small village of Chak-95 of Sargodha. The custodian of a Sufi shrine, Abdul Waheed, intoxicated his devotees and beat them to death with sticks in the belief that he could revive them again like innocent babies without any sins.
Waheed is believed to be suffering from a mental disorder, making him create and live in an unrealistic and virtual world in his mind. Many fake Pirs are said to be psychological patients, however, their condition becomes dangerous when people start following these Pirs as walis. So the issue is not the custodian but the devotees. Their ignorance becomes food for the typical Piri-muridi system.
The only solution is that the government should keep a proper check and balance on shrines, regarding their activities. Moreover, people should inform law-enforcing agencies immediately after discovering such suspicious activities in their surroundings.
