I would urge that the traffic police and CDA’s focus shifts towards expanding this section of the road
ISLAMABAD: Investment in road networks throughout the country creates a substantial impact on the economy. Several benefits — ranging from reduction in measureable costs such as fuel and car maintenance to enhancement of productivity and improved mental state for commuters and motorists — can be counted.
Living in the twin cities for more than 10 years now, I have been travelling considerable distances since my school time, from Rawalpindi to Islamabad and now from Rawat to Islamabad. While the government’s efforts and interest in expanding and improving the road network in Pakistan is commendable, their attention on one particular road, affecting thousands of travellers every day, the Islamabad expressway is much required.
After the construction of Koral and I-8 Interchange in the capital, the road leading to DHA has become more distressing and miserable for commuters. Creating choke points at three locations at least, residents from several societies are visibly frustrated and angered during the rush hours. The congestion is further worsened by hundreds of heavy-duty vehicles that pass through this road, sometimes breaking down themselves and sometimes breaking the road down.
I would urge that the traffic police and CDA’s focus shifts towards expanding this section of the road, at their earliest. And till the time decisive changes are not made, trucks should be barred from entering the city at rush hours, to allow a smoother flow of traffic.
