History repeating itself

Letter April 10, 2017
Time to see the reality and it is time to not let its past repeat itself

LAHORE: I would like to comment on the article written by M Ziauddin titled ‘Afghanistan is no Vietnam’ published on 8th April 2017. I agree with the points raised by him that suggest that the US seems to be repeating their history with Vietnam. For more than 15 years, the US has been waging a war against terrorism in Afghanistan, while trying to impose democracy in the country. Democracy cannot prevail in a country where tribalism prevails. The US needs a reality check.

The fact that the US seems to be blaming Pakistan for being a sanctuary for all the Afghan terrorists takes us back to the rumours they made during the war with Vietnam where Cambodia was blamed.

I completely agree with the viewpoint of the writer and support his suggestion that the US clearly needs to take back its forces and give up, being stubborn and waging a war on a country for over a decade is inhumane. They have killed millions of people in the process and no conclusion has been reached. It is not the time to be stubborn anymore. It is time to let go. Time to see the reality and it is time to not let its past repeat itself.
