I was very impressed by the individuals I saw and I would like to thank them for putting in their hard work
KARACHI: The other way I was driving by Clifton and I saw a large crowd of men and women wearing black T-shirts. I stopped to see what was going on - I thought it was a protest of sorts. But to my surprise, pleasant surprise if I may add, this group of individuals was working on the fixit campaign clearing all the garbage from the area.
You could see people from all age groups working together in making their city beautiful again. Campaigns like these need to be encouraged and supported by our government and the rest of society. Japan has no concept of janitors because each and every individual is held responsible for keeping their space clean. Children at school are asked to clean classrooms, playgrounds and bathrooms for one hour every day as a part of their education. We need to inculcate such responsibility in our society. Every single one of us is responsible for keeping our country, our city clean. Schools should get teachers, children and parents together every Sunday for instance, and get them to clean one particular area of the city. It’s an activity that can bring us closer together as a nation and it positively helps the environment we live in.
Once we ourselves take charge, we will see the difference. It’s easy to point fingers and blame others. But campaigns like these give us the power to take charge and be the change we want to see.
I was very impressed by the individuals I saw and I would like to thank them for putting in their hard work and taking out time.
