Lack of proper guidance

Letter April 08, 2017
Efficient individuals should be designated as student counsellors so that troubled students are offered helpful advice

KARACHI: I am enrolled in the Bacherlor of Arts programme at Karachi University. Upon attending classes, I discovered that a majority of students are facing various problems. Many students remain unclear about what to select as a subsidiary, whereas many students are unaware of the career opportunities their major subjects offer, students appear to be at a loss when it comes to making decisions for their academic career as mostly they are misguided by their parents with no presence of proper student guidance programmes in our schools, colleges or universities.

The counselling committee which exists for the guidance and assistance of students is unaware of its primary duties which is to provide students with appropriate and proper guidance regarding different affairs of the university. Nonetheless the counselors present seem to lack knowledge and information sometimes even wasting the time of students.

I would like to request the university administration that efficient and problem solving individuals should be designated as student counsellors so that troubled students are offered helpful advice.
