Where have all the good teachers gone?

Letter April 06, 2017
I appeal to the authorities to take notice of this issue

KARACHI: Most people have this misconception that all the institutes provide the best education to its students. My cousin is one of the victims of an institute that has no interest in providing education to its students. The institute in which she studies was known as one of the top schools/colleges of Karachi. But for the past two or more years, in terms of education, the school is going through a pathetic time and not only students, but their parents are also suffering.

The biggest problem in the school is regarding teachers. Firstly, there is a shortage of teachers: only five of them are experienced, while the others have no experience at all.

In fact, they do not have good qualification as they do not even know the meaning and pronounciation of common English words. If any student points out any mistake of a teacher, the teacher scolds them and orders them out of the class.

Secondly, teachers show no interest in students and teaching.  They pay no heed to the studies specially and are usually seen engrossed in their mobile phones. Interestingly, cell phones are not allowed to be used in the classrooms but teachers just do not care at all.

We are going through the most difficult time of our lives as our future depends on these teachers who teach us nothing and if they do, it is mostly wrong and we remain confused.

I appeal to the authorities to take notice of this issue. We do not want to waste our golden period under such uneducated teachers.
