Make sure to remove dirty water immediately while the roads are repaired and carpeted
KARACHI: The Karachi Water and Sewerage Board (KWSB) has reportedly appointed a large number of sanitary workers for the removal of numerous complaints against overflowing gutters and sewage water on roads. The bad drainage system situation has not changed. For a glaring example, in my residential area of North Karachi, where so many gutters have been overflowing for a long time, causing the accumulation of sewage water at the dividing road of 7D-1 and 7D-2 North Karachi in front of Siddiq-e-Akbar Mosque, it has given grave inconvenience to people to go to the mosque for prayers. The choked sewerage lines have increased the miseries of residents and students while the relevant chief engineer for sewage is not properly maintaining the sewerage system. The streets leading to the road area are also damaged at several places due to the accumulation of stagnant sewerage water. Roads and gutter lines need to be urgently repair, otherwise it would be more appropriate to replace the entire system with a new one. Nonetheless, priority should be given to remove accumulated dirty water forthwith so that the matter may be resolved forever.
The overflowing gutters near the mosque gate have become a serious nuisance for prayers and are also creating hurdles for routine domestic affairs. Various diseases are being spread over the areas due to unhygienic conditions. Another major reason for the overflowing is waste; sewers are either completely uncovered or semi-covered, in addition to connections between houses and sewers also broken, due to which dust and solid waste starts depositing.
The KWSB has come under jurisdiction of the Government of Sindh, hence, we request the chief minister, the minister for local bodies and the secretary local government to pay personal attention and make sure to remove dirty water immediately while the roads are repaired and carpeted. Officials are also requested to take necessary action against the chief engineer concerned instead of shifting this burden to the municipal corporations in usual manner.
