The need of the hour is that we at all levels must rethink the current state of affairs
LAHORE: Moral values are the backbone for sustainability in any society. Muslim countries globally should have been the torch bearers in the observation of moral values. Pakistan has struggled to eradicate the stain of terrorism for decades now but unfortunately the dilemma still persists. Moral values need participation from all individuals of society. We can separate this into two parts. One is the effect of leadership and government policies while the other part lies with every individual comprising our society.
It is the duty of the government to draft laws in order to maintain good moral values and it is the responsibility of every Muslim to learn the moral principles of our religion and practise them whether the leadership or government policies support them or not. The responsibility lies on parents and elders to set a good example to the young ones to follow. We as individual should be able to draw a line between the good and the bad.
In our case we are gradually losing out at both ends i.e., neither the government seems too concerned about the deteriorating moral values nor do we seem interested in improving them. The need of the hour is that we at all levels must rethink the current state of affairs. We as individual must educate ourselves with the true spirit of education which is to improve our quality of life by practising the best moral values. We need a win-win situation.
